Dear Members:
Because of the holidays, we have extended the deadline for nominations for the Asia, Eurasia, and Middle East positions by a few days. Please let us know by Tuesday April 22nd whether you wish to run for a position or to nominate anyone.
Thank you to those who have indicated that they wish to help the caucus, regardless of what positions are open. We are always looking for persons who will work on various committees (we keep thinking up new committees everyday!) and we are grateful for your support.

Elections: Important Notice to All Members
Dear Members:
Like last year, because of the focus on issues concerning the Toronto program prior to the conference, elections are being held by the caucus immediately AFTER the conference. (A constitutional change to this effect will be proposed for your vote shortly.)
We are issuing a call now for people who are willing to stand for the following Executive Committee posts:
1) regional representative: Middle East
2) regional representative: Asia
3) regional representative: Developing Eurasia OR issues dealing south communities located in the north.
(The members from Latin America and Africa are entering their second year of their two-year term voted on last year.)
Members will also be asked in the upcoming ballot to vote for a second term for the Treasurer, Seifudein Adem, and the Newsletter Editor Diana Cassells. As per the constitution, these persons are allowed to run for a second term(not longer) and have indicated that they so desire. As with other such positions, only two terms are allowed.
At the Toronto meeting, the EXCOM made a decision to endorse a final year of service for the Chair and Vice Chair (Operations) Lisa Richey, in view of the demands of the upcoming Bangkok conference. This means that their one-year extension endorsed by members last year will be converted to two years (or, in other words, a full second term). Elections for a new Chair will be held next year. A proposal to eliminate the position of second vice chair after this year will be sent out to you shortly, in re Constitutional Changes.
Please indicate your willingness to serve by emailing jbraveboy-wagner@gc.cuny.edu. by April 18th.
Thank you and please remember to register for FLACSO by April 11th.

DISTINGUISHED SCHOLAR HONOREE-TORONTO: INVITATION TO ALL MEMBERS
This year we are honoring a Latin American scholar, having previously
honored Prof. Ali Mazrui (Africa), and Dr. Jomo Sundaram (Asia).
Dr. Arlene B. Tickner received her Ph.D. from the Miami in 2000 and is now Professor of International Relations at the Universidad de los Andes, Colombia. October 2004-present (on leave from August 2007 to June 2008). Among ISA members she is well known for initiating a series of works on Worlding IR, co-editing (with Ole Wæver), International Relations Scholarship around the World, London: Routledge, 2009; and with David L. Blaney, Thinking International Relations Differently, London: Routledge, 2012, and Claiming the International, London: Routledge, 2013. Among Latin Americanists she is known for her extensive publications on Colombian and Latin American foreign policy and diplomacy, drugs and security, civil society, inter-American affairs, and alternative thinking in Latin American IR theory. Although primarily a scholar, she has also prepared briefs for the Colombian parliament, Andean parliament, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Trade and Trade, and policy papers for a number of international and local nongovernmental organizations. As her nominee for the award noted:
''Arlene Tickner is probably the Latin American scholar that has brought the longest and most sustained contributions/ perspectives of this global south to the study of international relations. Her 3 books in the Routledge Worlding Beyond the West series is only the latest proof of her lasting academic effort.”
The Global South Caucus congratulates Arlene on her major contributions to expanding the way we see international relations, and especially for her continuing contributions to Latin American scholarship.
Our luncheon will be held on Friday 28, March at the University of Toronto, Faculty Club. All members in good standing are invited on a first come, first serve basis. You are asked for a contribution of $10 which will go toward caucus activities, but it is not obligatory. You MUST, however, RSVP to this invitation, either by writing to the Caucus Chair or Program Chair or via comment on this blog.
We look forward to seeing you there. Once you RSVP we will provide you with details concerning how to get to the faculty club.
