Caucus chair Braveboy-Wagner recently visited with members and professors at the University of Mumbai to work out details of a potential mini-workshop to be held in 2016. The Department of Civics and Politics, located in the relatively new Pherozeshah Mehta Bhavan and Research Center Building has advanced technological facilities and all the required skills available to host such a local-regional workshop. We will of course keep you informed about this event as planning continues.

Dear All:
Thank you all so much for your comments and votes on the honoree for the Atlanta Convention. The vote was overwhelmingly for Amitav Acharya but I should note that there were votes for Navrita Behera and for Yoichi Mine as well. Amitav is of course a familiar face and most of you made specific mention of his contribution to our cause at ISA. We DID send him a thank you plaque after the Singapore conference but we are happy to officially thank him for his work in and outside ISA in Atlanta.
Please note that the luncheon will be held on Friday at 11.30 to 1, just as it was in New Orleans. We expect to be able to accommodate some 30 persons so it will be on a first come first serve basis as usual. Thank you in advance for marking off your calendar.
We are planning to pay posthumous tribute to Geeta Chowdhry. As we noted last year in the blog,
The GSCIS wishes to express its (belated) condolences to the family of Dr. Geeta Chowdhry. Geeta was listed as one of our senior advisors, was an active member of ISA, and friend/proactive and energetic professional colleague to many of us. She was a professor and former chair of the Department of Politics and International Affairs at Northern Arizona University. She died while in India with her family on Jan. 13, 2014 at the early age of 57.
If you have anything specific you wish to say about Geeta, please let me know.
Best,
jbw

News
JBW has just returned from India where useful discussions were held with the University of Mumbai concerning their interest in holding a mini-workshop on the global south. This would be an exciting opportunity to focus on the rising or emerging south while IN an important part of the south. More information will be provided as things develop.
Meanwhile, negotiations are underway regarding possibly holding the Third GSCIS conference in Cuba. Again, more information will be made available shortly.
We continue to apologize for the lack of a summer newsletter. We plan to combine it with a fall newsletter and will send that out in November. Thank you for your patience.
